Halych National Nature Park Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary

However, if we delve a little deeper into history, the prerequisites for establishing this nature reserve institution appeared much earlier. The idea of creating the Kasova Hill Nature Reserve in the Halych district was first raised on August 18, 1936, in Pidlyute at the “Yasna Villa” during a conference organized by the Nature Conservation Commission of the Shevchenko Scientific Society and the Plyai Tourist and Local History Society.

In 1975, the area was granted the status of a state complex natural monument of national importance and became the first protected site in the region. Later, over 40 different natural complexes were designated as protected areas. On July 11, 1996, all of them were incorporated into the Halych Regional Landscape Park, covering an area of 8,306 hectares. Finally, on August 9, 2004, by decree of the President of Ukraine, Halych National Nature Park was established to preserve, restore, and ensure the sustainable use of the natural complexes and objects of the Pre-Carpathians and Opillia. These areas hold exceptional conservation, scientific, historical, cultural, health, educational, and aesthetic values.
